Short Description of the institution and department

The INSERM is the French public organization entirely dedicated to biological, medical and public health research. L'institut du thorax regroups health care, teaching and research in cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Preclinical research in l'institut du thorax is developed in the INSERM-affiliated UMR915 research unit. The UMR915 is a Joint Research Unit between Inserm and the University of Nantes. The “Cardiac diseases and sudden death” team of the Inserm UMR 915, which is involved in the project, is an “Equipe de Recherche Labellisée” from the CNRS (Research team with the label of the CNRS). University of Nantes and CNRS will be involved in the project as Third Parties of Inserm.

Contribution to the project

Our goal is to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which a dysfunctional cardiac Na+ channel (Nav1.5) leads to aging-related structural changes in myocardial tissue and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and to propose new approaches for DCM prevention. For this purpose, different mouse models mimicking the different forms of Nav1.5-associated DCM will be investigated. In addition, ECG and echography investigations will be conducted on animal models developed by WP7.
